If I have chosen to hide Home Screen balances by default, can I temporarily reveal them without having to adjust the default setting?

Yes. To temporarily reveal the balances on your home screen simply tap the 'eye' icon to the left of the obfuscated 'Total Savings' number. When pressed the balances will be visible for 10 seconds before being obfuscated again.
